About Hous
Hous answers the questions about Irish rent that the listings sites do not: what an increase is actually allowed to be, and whether the rules apply to you at all.
Why it exists
Rent law in Ireland changed substantially on 1 March 2026, and most of what is written online still describes the system that ended the day before. Somebody handed a rent increase has to work out which set of rules they are under before they can tell whether the figure is lawful.
The useful thing a site can do here is not another summary. It is to work out the answer for one particular tenancy and then show the working, so the reader can check it against the regulator rather than trusting us.
What it does not do
- No listings, and nothing taken from any property portal.
- No account, no sign up, no email capture.
- Nothing you type in a calculator leaves your browser.
- One analytics cookie, and only if you agree to it. Decline and nothing loads at all.
- No advertising, and nothing about you sold or shared.
- No figure published from memory. Every one of them carries its source.
