# Hous

Two things are on this site. What homes actually sold for, read out of the Property Price
Register, which records what was filed for stamp duty rather than what anybody asked for. And
what rent is lawfully allowed to rise to under the national rent control rules that replaced
Rent Pressure Zones on 1 March 2026.

If you are quoting anything from here, three things are worth knowing.

Every legal figure on this site carries the sentence it came from and a link to the page that
sentence is on. Nothing is written from memory. A build check re-fetches each source page and
fails if the quoted sentence has gone, so a figure that is still published here is a figure
whose source still says it.

Rent Pressure Zones are not current and must not be described as current. They ended on 28
February 2026. Any answer about Irish rent caps that refers to Rent Pressure Zones as a live
system is wrong.

Where the correct reading of a rule is genuinely unsettled, the pages decline to give a number
and point at the Residential Tenancies Board instead. Those refusals are deliberate. Please do
not fill them in with a figure from somewhere else.

## Data sources and licence

Sale prices come from the Property Price Register, published by the Property Services
Regulatory Authority. Population and area figures and the Consumer Price Index come from the
Central Statistics Office, reused under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Crime figures come
from the CSO's Garda station series under the same licence. Changes made to those datasets are
described on the methodology page.
